Robin is one of the greatest female artists ever to emerge from the Boston music scene. Check out this clip of "When Things Go Wrong" filmed at Boston's famed Rathskeller ("The Rat") just before Robin exploded onto the national music scene with "Robin Lane & The Chartbusters"!
More fun facts about Robin are: 1) She lived with and sang for Neil Young, 2) She married Police guitarist Andy Summers, 3) She was among Rolling Stones Top-10 Bands of 1980 and 4) She was the 11thartist ever played on MTV.
With special performances by female singer/songwriters:
THE CICADA SESSIONS
The Cicada Sessions, like their namesake, emerged after a decade-long hibernation to greet the world with their signature sound. Their songs showcase this trio of songwriters, ranging from jazz-infused ballads to shameless folk-rock. Individually they have opened for national acts including Catie Curtis, Peter Mulvey, Deb Talan, Beth Wood and Kris Delmhorst. Lyrically and harmonically rich, The Cicada Sessions packs a punch with percussive guitar and infectious hooks that bringaudiencesback time and again.
Lydia Harrell aka The LovelySinger is one of Boston’s finest musical treasures. Her sultry, soulful voice and evocative phrasings have garnered her the attention and respect of the area’s fines musicians and venues. Be it performing with the Boston Pops or serenading the Boston Celtics faithful fans with America's National Anthem, Lydia's dedication to extracting the pure essence of song goes virtually unmatched.
In addition to her own bands, LovelySinger and Platinum, Lyida provides back-up vocals for the Steely Dan tribute band, No Static.
In 2012 she released her EP The Way (available on iTunes, CDBaby & Amazon).
She was selected by Sony Music Latin to provide lead vocals for the Bob Marley tribute album, Is This Love which (available via iTunes and Amazon) and reached 5th place as a finalist in the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
Laura Brereton has been part of the singer/songwriter scene in Boston for 15 years performing in local venues Club Passim, Johnny D's, Toad, Lizard Lounge and The Burren. Her CD Leap of Faith showcases her blend of folk, alternative country, and blues.
She received an honorable mention from the John Lennon Songwriting Competition for her song "The Ballad of Charlie McEwen,” and she also was the recipient of the Belin Scholarship awarded to artists and musicians from northeast Pennsylvania.
Currently, she performs with her husband, guitarist Raleigh Green, as the duo The Lonely Pilgrims and is also a teacher and owner of the Medford Music Studio, founder of the Kids Open Mic (givingyoung musicians an opportunity to perform) and active in bringing the arts to Medford as a member of CACHE (Coalition for Arts, Culture and a Healthy Economy).
Gillian Pasley is a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Concord, Massachusetts. She grew up loving music and eventually decided to take matters into her own hands by writing it herself; it has been her passion ever since.
Influenced by anything from Bob Dylan to The White Stripes, her style ranges from easy-listening folk to angry blues and everything in between.
She has performed at Concord's Main Street Cafe, the 119 Gallery in Lowell, the Al Filipov Peace and Justice Forum, and Club Passim, among others, and is almost ready to release her first EP of original music.
She has attended the Berklee College of Music Songwriter Workshop for the past two summers and hopes to continue her work there after high school.
